A close-up view of a Thai rooster in a bamboo cage. Cock fighting is regarded as part of Thai culture. It started in Thailand with King Naresuan the Great in the late 1500s and early 1600s and is a popular past time where two roosters are placed in a "ring" to fight, an average duel lasts 2 -3 minutes. Roosters are usually bred to weigh about kgs and are about 75 cm before they are ready to compete. The use of metal spurs or knives attached to their feet is outlawed in Thailand.
