The Moeraki Boulders are found on Kockohe Beach on the Otago coast between Hampden and Moeraki. They are septarian concretions. They are unusually large ranging in size up to over 2 metres. Maori legend tells that the boulders are the remains from the wreck of the Arai-te-uru a large canoe. and that the boulders are the remains of such things as eel-baskets, kumara and calabashes washed ashore.
