PACIFIC OCEAN (July 20, 2018) A Coast Guard Tactical Delivery Team (TDT) member secures a mock hostile Navy midshipman in the hanger deck of the guided-missile destroyer USS William P. Lawrence (DDG 110) July 20, during a training demonstration for Rim of the Pacific (RIMPAC) exercises. The TDT is a part of the Coast Guard Maritime Security Response Team-West, which is the service's only offensively oriented counter-terrorist team and play a critical role in the Department of Homeland Security’s maritime defense strategy. Twenty-five nations, 46 ships, five submarines, and about 200 aircraft and 25,000 personnel are participating in RIMPAC from June 27 to Aug. 2 in and around the Hawaiian Island and Southern California. The world’s largest international maritime exercise, RIMPAC provides a unique training opportunity while fostering and sustaining cooperative relationships among the participants critical to ensuring the safety of sea lanes and security on the world’s oceans. RIMPAC 2018 is the 26th exercise in the series that began in 1971.
