Botanical sundial. This sundial was located in one of the parks or horticultural gardens in Chicago, USA, which included several such sundials. The design and flowers used varied from location to location and year to year. Here, the word's 'Sol's Clock' are included in the design. Sundials are designed to indicate the time of day by means of a shadow cast on a surface marked to show hours or parts of hours. The shadow-casting marker (or gnomon) is usually aligned parallel to the Earth's axis and pointing at the celestial pole.
