Alvenus Metcalf, son of Rufus, was born in Freedom in 1820, marriedAlma Weire, and settled finally in the northeast part of Farmersville, wherehe died on the farm where his son Carlos now lives. To the girls the commu-nity is indebted for their faithful service as teachers. Fidelia commencedteaching when only sixteen years old and received seventy-five cents perweek: her labors and pure Christian example should perpetuate her namethrough all coming generations. The family consisted of seven girls and twosons; of the girls all but one, Angeline, were married. She died quiteyoung. The youngest son died in the west. Edwin, the oldest, retains theold homestead, married, and is now living in Rushford, N.
