Ammeter. Rear of a moving coil ammeter. This is used for measuring the electric current in a circuit, displaying it in amperes. Current is conserved throughout a circuit but splits at junctions. So ammeters need to be placed in series with the other components to give a true reading. Current passing through the coil creates a magnetic field, causing a needle to be deflected in proportion to the current.
