Roses in some places are badly mildewed and will require careful handling before the cool nights arrive. Some late planting in roses is done this year; one grower is only preparing his benches now, not as an experiment by any means. NOTES. The Gardeners and Florists' Club pic- nic was a thorough success from a so- cial point of view\ The programme of games went off without a hitch, the prizes were many and costly, and every- body had a good time. The financial end we have not heard from yet, but it is thought to be about right. C. A.
