Summer evening view south of Jackson Lake Lodge Willow Flats Overlook to Jackson Lake and Teton peaks from Mount Moran to Grand Teton, Wyoming, USA

White stratocumulus and receding grey nimbostratus rain clouds evening view, from the Willow Flats Overlook, Jackson Lake Lodge, looking south across the Jackson Hole valley-floor, with sagebrush, towards Jackson Lake and the Teton Range. Flat-topped Mount Moran (right of shot) stands 3842 metres (12,305 feet) above sea-level, and rises 1600 metres above the Jackson Hole valley-floor. Mount Moran was named after landscape artist, Thomas Moran, who travelled north of the Teton Range to Yellowstone with the Hayden Expedition in 1871. His sketches and watercolours helped popularise Yellowstone as the world's first national park. To the left of Mount Moran stands Thor Peak (3666 metres). Proceeding south rise Maidenform Peak (3395 metres), Mount Woodring (3533 metres) and Mount Saint John (3484 metres). Mount Owen (3940 metres) and the Grand Teton, the highest peak in the Teton Range at 4199 metres (13,770 feet), rise far left. The Grand Teton may have been so-named by 19th Century fur-trappers, being derived from the French 'large teat'. The name, alternatively, may derive from the Teton Sioux.
