AtSan Giovanni di Bieda, on the road betweenVetralla and Viterbo, are several sepulchres in therock, with mouldings of genuine Etruscan architec-ture; a stream running from Blera has here wornin the soft volcanic stone a deep valley with rockysides. * The Etruscans delighted in tombs excavated insuch situations, and those in this valley are both ex-traordinary and numerous. The stream unites withanother from near Viterbo, which, like the former, presents on its banks, at Castel dAsso, a series oftombs, and also inscriptions, which can only becompared with those in the valley of the tombs ofthe Kings, Biban el Mclek, near Thebes.
