Acetic acid storage tank. Also called ethanoic acid, this carboxylic acid is used in the chemical industry in the production of plastics. It is also used as a preservative and is found in vinegar, giving it its sour taste and pungent smell. However, in vinegar is it only present at 5 percent concentration. Here, it is present at a corrosive 80 percent concentration and stored as a large volume (46,340 litres). The international warning label for corrosive chemicals is at bottom.
