Theysaw it whirled round three or four times, then plunged downinto the depths; out of which the stern presently emergedpointed upward; and then they knew that Kalulu and his ca-noe-mates were no Death of Kalulu. A second canoe darted by the horrified spectators, but almostby a miracle, shot over the falls, and was brought to land be-low, the two men in it escaping harm. A third canoe dartedpast them, having but one man in it; but he was less fortunatethan the others, and was whirled down to instant death. In remembrance of the victim who had been most intimatelyconnected with the leader, his body-servant Kalulu, the cata-ract was named Kalulu Falls.
