Darmstadt Mathildenhöhe Jugendstil Artists Colony, Exhibition Hall Building and Russian Chapel with gold onion domes
The exhibition hall (1901) designed by Joseph Maria Olbrich was a venue for the members of the artists’ colony to display their work. The building stands on the site of a former water reservoir. Russian Chapel - St. Mary Magdalene Chapel - built 1897-1899 A historic Russian Orthodox church designed by architect Nikolai L. Benois to carry out religious services for the Imperial Family when the last Tsar of Russia, Nicholas II married Alexandra of Darmstadt. It was built of Russian stone in the Russian Revival style and topped with gold onion domes. Darmstadt, Hesse, Germany. The Luisenplatz is the central square of the city and the Langer Lui (Long Ludwig) stands in the centre of the square, This 33 meter column commemorates Ludwig 1, the first Grand Duke of Hesse.
