It seems inevitable thatmore closely-spaced sampling almost anywhere in theBay will yield much more complex patterns than ourmaps show. THE MARINE BIOFACIES Northern BiofaciesKEY TAXA: The Northern Biofacies is dominatedby either of two clams: Anoinalocardia auberiana orthe tiny Paiastarte triquetra (Text-fig. 5A, B). Anal-ysis of all occurrences of both shells where we re-corded water depth shows that Parastarte is most. Text-figure 5.—Most important tAnoinalocardia auberiana. B. Pariiteni. D. Retusa candei. The preference of Parastarte for shallower watermakes it the more commonly Dominant Taxon in thewestern half of the Northern area which is generallyfilled with mud (Text-fig. 6). East of the Black BeLsyKeys the lakes have less mud filling so the water isslightly deeper and Anoinalocardia dominates. In the shallower Parastarte subfacies Parastarte() and Anoinalocardia () together makeup of all mollusks. In Xhc Anoinalocardia subfa-cies Anoinalocardia dominates (), but Para-starte becomes a minor element (). The Parastarte and Anoinalocardia assemblages aretreated as subfacies because of the importance of An-oinalocardia in both. The shift upward fro
