June 20. Johnston Bros, furnished an immense shield in national colors for the recent banquet to the commander of the United States military district of the north- east. Frederick McKenna, of the O'Connor store, has enlisted in Battery A of the Ehode Island light artillery. The Westminster Greenhouses are be- ing overhauled, and extensive altera- tions are being made to some of the buildings. Charles Smith was a business visitor to Boston last week. He was looking for novelties. Richard Hogan disposed of several thousand potted geraniums during the week. Daniel A. Clarke, of the Red Oak Nurseries, of Fiskeville, has presented 500 Rose of Sharon bushes and 1,500 flowering currant shrubs to the pupils of the public schools of Coventry. William A. Bowers maintained a store annex at 144 Washington street last week, with good results. F. A. Geisler, of Bristol, had an ex- ceptionally fine assortment of potted flowers for Memorial day. W. H. M.
