When the Genealogical Society of Utah was organized in thefall of 1894, Elder Franklin Dewey Richards, Historian of theChurch of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, w^as chosen as itsPresident. The existence of the Society is largely due to his un-tiring efforts and encouragement. It was in his office where theorganization was effected, and in a room in the same buildingwhere it received its home, which is still occupied, but room in the Historians Office was tendered for the use ofthe members until such time as circumstances required a changeof location, the use of said room to be free of charge. He wasone of the first to make a presentation of books to the Society,thus assisting to form the nucleus for a library that has grown toquite respectable proportions. Franklin D.
