R£D PERENNIAI^ (Echinacea X Helianthus.) 2708 This novel and interesting hardy perennial was raised in Germany and is described by the originator as being a cross between Echinacea (Rudbeckia) hybrida and Helianthus multiflorus, the latter being the pollen parent. The plant attains a height of from 5 to 6 feet, and in general habit resembles sometimes one parent and sometimes the other. The flowers vary from 4 to 10 inches in diameter and in shape closely fol- lows the Sunflower, having a flat disc and horizontal ray florets. In color, however, it resembles its other parent, being a purplish red, made brighter by the infusion of the yellow blood of the Sunflower. The flowers are excelleht for cutting for decorative purposes, lasting a long time cut, and with stems from IS to 36 inches long.
