However,as the main problem is always to cheapen the cost of trans-portation, if the conditions are such that double-truck carscan be used advantageously, and the traffic of such a char-acter as will warrant it, a car of greater length would bemore desirable, as it gives greater capacity and reduces thecost of operation. The company is now making an average of sixteen roundtrips per day to seven different terminals, at distances of 7miles to 14 miles, and a total daily mileage of 270 car miles,. The Street Railway Express Service in Pittsburgh The Pittsburgh Express Company, Pittsburgh, Pa., isnow conducting an electric express car service with mostsatisfactory results. There are at present in operation tencars of the type shown in the accompanying engraving, PITTSBURGH EXPRESS CAR or 7020 car miles per month. It handles both express pack-ages and heavy freight of all kinds. Packages that are col-lected by the companys wagons and delivery completed atdestination by wagon are classed as express, while goodsthat are brought to the station and are either called for atdestination station or delivered along the line from the car,are classed as freight. There is a central downtown ware-house, equipped with offices, high platform, and a doubletrack running into it, where the express that is collected bythe wagons is received and loaded into cars, and also whereshippers deliver their freight for forwarding by car to dif-ferent points reached.
