This is an informal setting where students can conduct in-person interviews with USDA chemists, biologists, geologists, entomologists, engineers, geneticists, and more. Dr. Janet Slovin's research in the Fruit and Vegetable Lab is directed toward using molecular approaches to determine how normal plant responses to stress can be manipulated to improve the development of basal and acquired thermotolerance during critical periods in plant growth and development, and thus, improve agricultural performance. USDA is a sponsor of and exhibitor at USASEF. Multiple USDA agencies including National Institute of Food and Agriculture (NIFA), Forest Service (FS), Agricultural Research Service (ARS), Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS), Natural Resources Conservation Services (NRCS), Food and Nutrition Service (FNS) and Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (APHIS), Agricultural Marketing Service (AMS), Grain Inspection, Packers and Stockyards Administration (GIPSA) are participating in this event.
