The following will be interesting, viz.:—The first indisputable re-ference to Highland Tartans occurs in the Accounts of the Lord HighTreasurer of Scotland, in August, 1538. These articles formed part ofthe dress worn by James V. when hunting in the Highlands. While therecan be little doubt that district tartans are older than clan tartans, it isinteresting to note that there is historic evidence to prove the existence ofclan tartans as early as 1587.
