Equestrian statue of Saint Jeanne d'Arc, (Saint Joan of Arc) in Place du Martroi at Orleans in north-central France, about 130 km (80 miles) southwest of Paris. The Siege of Orleans in 1428 - 1429 marked a turning point in the Hundred Years' War when Jeanne d'Arc, ‘Maid of Orleans’ has been called ever since, made her reputation here by lifting the siege nine days after she arrived. It was her last battle against the English before she was burnt at the stake in Rouen in May 1431.
