050224-N-5345W-065 Persian Gulf (Feb. 24, 2005) - Aviation Ordnancemen, assigned to the "Gunslingers" of Strike Fighter Squadron One Zero Five (VFA-105), load an Advanced, Medium-Range, Air-to-Air Missile (AMRAAM) to the underside of an F/A-18C Hornet while preparing for flight operations on the flight deck aboard USS Harry S. Truman (CVN 75). The AMRAAM is an all-weather, all-environment, radar guided missile developed as a follow-on to the AIM-7 Sparrow missile series. AMRAAM is smaller, faster, lighter and has improved capabilities against very low-altitude and high-altitude targets in an electronic countermeasure environment. It was deployed in September 1991 and is carried by all models of the F/A-18 Hornet and F/A-18E/F Super Hornet. Carrier Air Wing Three (CVW-3) is embarked aboard Truman and is providing close air support and conducting intelligence surveillance and reconnaissance over Iraq. The Truman Carrier Strike Group is on a regularly scheduled deployment in support of the Global War on Terrorism.
