GANGRENE - MENINGOCOCCAL SEPTICAEMIA
A photograph of a severly gangrenous foot in patient with meningococcal septicaemia. Meningococcal septicaemia is an infection of the blood, often called blood poisoning. Meningococcal septicaemia is much more dangerous than meningococcal meningitis. Less than one in 20 people (5%) with meningococcal meningitis die of the disease, but more than 8 in 20 people of people (40%) die of meningococcal septicemia.
