Fredens Havn, Harbour of Peace behind the freetown Christiania in Copenhagen. This maritime community is now up for removal according to authorities.
Fredens Havn, the Peace Harbour, or Harbour of (the) Peace, a floating free town neighbouring the freetown Christiania and quite near the Noma restaurant in Copenhagen, situated in Erdkehlgraven (the Erdkehl Trench) waters. This urban experiment consists of more than 50 boats and home built house boats anchored up in clusters as different neighbourhoods in the harbour - including all wrecks and floating units up around 90 in total. Inhabitants could be from 20 to perhaps 50 people depending on the season of which many are socially marginalised. The community also uses some of the shore and land next to the harbour for bonfires, permaculture gardening and communal cooking. Many of the inhabitants would be homeless if this kind of extended Christiania project did not exist.
