Referring to theillustration, the dotted lines indicate in a general way theposition and shape of sills after they become bent, due toexcessive buffing shocks or other mistreatment. The centersills, running lengthwise of the car, usually buckle as shown,and the end sill is bent back at the center. If the bent sillscan be heated and a strain brought on the drawbar all thesills may be straightened at once with the aid of a littlesledging.
