Just below you is MADISONVILLE with East Madisonville reached a half mile sooner. On the groundTVIadisonville seems to be on a plain. Seen fromKennedy Heights or Mt. Lookout it is situated on a hill-side that slopesgently to the south-west. It has a population of about 3,000, and isthe largest and most important place between Cincinnati and Love-land. The first settlement was made—in these modern times— in i6 ^ A. But everybody in thecan tell youabout the Indian Mounds, amile to the south, and aboutthe remains older by ten thou-sand years, discovered in agravel bed in the vicinity, de-posited there, who can tell howlong before the great glacier ofthe north came sweeping downover the land, driving life ofevery kind before it, and ob-literating all life that remained,though saving evidence of lifethat had been before its coming. Settled in 1809, it was incorporatedas a town in 1876, With its incorporationbegan a new era. Many improvementshave been made in the way of new wellpaved streets, and side-walks, and manybeautiful dwellings h^ve been is naturally abundant inthe vicin-ity, and the principal streets, even in wetweather, are in a condition that many atown of more pretension might well envy.
