From East Burnside the cars will be operatedon steam railroad rules through Buckland, Manchester andTalcottville to Vernon Jc, a distance of about 10 Vernon Jc. the line swings to the north and passes toRockville and Melrose over a single-track branch 13 mileslong. Electrification is under way on the 10 miles ofdouble-track line between East Burnside and Vernon Jc,and on the single-track branch to Melrose. The city ofManchester, population 10,000, is served by the double-trackroute, and is located 6 miles east of East Burnside. Rock-. TYPICAL CATENARY CONSTRUCTION IN TOWNS ville, population 8000, is located on the branch milesnorth of Vernon Jc. Power is at present supplied to the line from the Com-merce Street plant of the Hartford Electric Light Com-pany through an 11,000-volt three-phase transmission linecomposed of two No. 4 circuits which deliver current to->ul)-stations at Buckland and Rockville. At present this is a60-cycle supply, but the company contemplates changing itssource of power to its own 25-cycle plant in Hartford in thenear future. Step-down transformers and rotary convertersare located in each sub-station, and the distribution of powerto the rolling stock is carried out at 600 volts direct-currentby standard General Electric Company catenary construc-tion, as shown in the accompanying illustration. About 33miles of catenary are erected in toto. Work was startedin the spring of 1906. The catenary construction is erected with 150-ft. spansand three-point suspensio
