After weeks of storms bringing devastation to Britain’s South and South West coastlines, yet another even bigger storm dubbed ‘Superstorm Charlie,’ associated with an extreme low pressure system of 943 millibars, batters the south Wales seaside resort of Porthcawl with huge waves and winds up to severe storm force. Today's storm is being compared to the Great Storm of October 15th/16th 1987 which had a central pressure of 951 millibars and caused intensive damage including the loss of 15 million trees.
