Situated in Golden, Colorado, the Colorado Railroad Museum stands as a prominent homage to the rich railroad heritage of Colorado and the United States. It houses a substantial collection of vintage trains, antique railroad equipment, artifacts, and memorabilia that provide a comprehensive overview of the pivotal role the railroad industry played in the state's history. The museum, founded in 1959, is set on a 15-acre site replicating an 1880s-style rail depot. It showcases over 100 narrow and standard gauge steam and diesel locomotives, passenger cars, cabooses, and a G-scale garden railway. The highlight of the museum's collection is the Rio Grande Southern No. 20, a steam locomotive meticulously restored over a period of nearly three decades. Also on display is the "Denver & Rio Grande Western Railroad No. 491", the largest narrow-gauge locomotive ever built in the United States. The museum frequently hosts special events, including "Day Out with Thomas" for young enthusiasts and the "Polar Express Train Ride" during the holiday season. Its mission is not only to preserve Colorado's colorful railroad history but also to educate the public about the importance of railroads in shaping the state and the nation.
