Among dignitaries participating in the event were Secretary Dirk Kempthorne, OSM Appalachian Region Director (soon to become OSM Director) Brent Wahlquist, National Mining Association President and Chief Executive Officer Kraig Naasz, and American Chestnut Foundatiion President Marshal Case.
