This vegetable is highly esteemed as a salad for fall and winter use. For an early supply, sow in April or May ; for general crop, delay sowing until latter part of June. When the plants are three or four inches high, transplant one foot apart each way, and keep free from weeds until the leaves are six or eight inches long ; then blanch by gathering them carefully together when perfectly dry and tying by their tips in a conical form to exclude light and air.
