Earwig. Coloured scanning electron micrograph (SEM) of an unidentified earwig (order Dermaptera). On the head are long, slender antennae (upper frame) which can consist of as many as 50 individual segments. The earwig is a nocturnal omnivore which feeds on carrion, live insect prey and flower petals. It seeks out dark, narrow crevices in which it spends the day resting. Magnification unknown.
