The foundations have been laid and the first bales put in place at the county’s first straw bale development in Waddington.

Straw houses use renewable and environmentally friendly materials. They are three times better insulated than building regulations require, which in turn will result in lower heating bills and less carbon emissions. The two houses are being built on Brumby Crescent in Waddington and they'll be the first in the country to be used as social housing. North Kesteven District Council Leader, Councilor Mrs Marion Brighton, OBE, said: “The straw houses will bring new homes to the District which are cheaper to build and more sustainable. North Kesteven’s ground-breaking project has attracted a huge amount of interest from around the world.” Once the bales have all been put in place; they’ll be ‘shaved’ to get rid of any loose ends, then instead of plaster, the bales will be skimmed using lime on both the inside and the outside of the building – so unless a truth window is put into the property, no one will be able to tell what it’s been made from. "By the hair of my chinny chin chin, I will not let you come in." "Then I'll huff and I'll puff and I'll blow your house in," said the wolf. So he huffed and he puffed and he huffed and he puffed. The house of straw fell down and the wolf ate up the first little pig.
