Flagg can. This is a receptacle containing ether, a volatile anaesthetic, attached to a rubber hose which connected to a metal oral airway tube. Prior to surgery, anaesthesia was initiated by ether being given to the patient on a towel, and then the tube was inserted into the patient's airway to continue the anaesthetic. Designed by Paluel Flagg, circa 1939.
