Ip to 550 volts (except on 110 volts, 60cycle circuits, where the trip coil only issufficient), an auto-transformer is usedin place of the resistance previously re-quired in series with the low-voltagetripping coil. This transformer has tapsto which proper connections can be madefor the operating voltage. For 2,200 voltcircuits, a new type voltage transformerreplaces the transformer and series re-sistance used heretofore. The use of thenew auto-transformer, or voltage trans-former, makes the watt loss in the low-voltage device practically negligible. On the switch with the time limit-over-load trip, the calibrating tubes and dashpots are protected from injury by a cast. IMPROVED OIL SWITCH. iron guard which has been added to theequipment. Switches can also be furnished withcovers arranged to mount a round patternammeter and provide, in addition to con-trol and protection, a means of knowingat all times the amount of current beingtaken by the motor. This gives a con-tinual indication of the motor load andthe opportunity to detect trouble in themotor or its circuit. Nickel Plating. To make the nickel-plating solutiontake as many as 12 oz. of crystals ofammonio-sulphate of nickel as you wishto make up gallons of bath. Now bringsome clean water up to the boiling point, and pour sufficient on the crystals to justdissolve them. When cold, filter to re-move any mechanical impurities; thenadd cold water to make up the desirednumber of gallons. If properly made of the solution should be should be as nearly neutral to test-paper as possib
