The spin-dle passes through thisand into the shank of theknob, which is cut witha thread correspondingwith the thread on thehub. As the spindle passes through the latch it willreadily be seen that the knob cannot be unscrewed except byremoving the escutcheon-plates, and as these plates bear oneach side of the door above and below the lock, it is almostimpossible to bring any strain on the lock-plate itself.
