The white should be started in sand and transplanted after- wards. For fall planting use rather stiff loam with very little manure, as the plants are liable to grow too tall in light rich soil. Now that we are rapidly ap- proaching soring and will have plenty of bright sunny days, it makes little dif- ference whether the soil is light or heavy. Bougfalnvlllea Glabra. As a pot plant for house decoration Bougainvillea glabra is not to be recom- mended, as it will last only a few days, but long cut sprays of it furnish excel- lent material for the decorator. .The reddish purple bracts are of an entirely different color from other flowers usu- ally seen, whether grown in pots or planted out in a greenhouse. The plants rest during November, December and part of January. From now on a temperature of 55° or 60° will suit them best for a few weeks. As soon as the flowers, or rather bracts, are developed lower the temperature. This will give them a deeper shade of color. A carna- tion house kept at about 52° at night will suit the plants. Bougainvilleas are propagated by cuttings of the young growth in March. They root easily if a little bottom heat is applied. The young stock may be planted in the field in summer or grow-n in pots indoors. A good porous loam suits it best.
