This photo is a scan from an old 35 mm transparency it is grainy and is not up to current standards of sharpness etc. When this shot was taken Boldon Colliery was a part of Co. Durham, later it was incorporated into South Tyneside and Tyne and Wear. Most of the houses seen here are council houses or social housing. To the right of the colliery buildings is Boldon Brickworks, with a tall smoking chimney.
