The loss, it is claimed, inthe transmission of the lightingcurrent to Portland, a distance oftwelve miles is only 10 per cent. The purchase embraces 1,600acres of valuable land in the neigh-borhood, having a river frontageof about three and a half miles,which takes in all the valuablesites of manufacturing institu-.
