In the middle of the picture, less distinct, isthe best portion of the town; while the harbor andnorthern promontory are seen beyond. I found a number of Americans here, some of whomhad been waiting a month for a steamer for San Fran-cisco. Three days before my arrival, the regular mailsteamer reached the offing, and sent a boat on shorefor the mail, but refused to receive any passengers, onthe ground that she was full.
