After many delays and much un- certainty as to the date of sailing, the Holland-America line steamer Waaldyk, laden with a cargo of 26,000 cases of Dutch bulbs, arrived safely in New York harbor September 25. However, the American consignees of the cargo were unable to secure at onee their shares of the shipment, owing to the fact that the British authorities at Halifax removed the mail the steamer carried, in which were the bills of lading. Maltus & Ware, New York brokers and forwarding agents, to whom were consigned more than 10,000 cases of the Waaldyk's cargo, at once communicated with Secretary of State Lansing, asking him to use his influence with the British authorities at Halifax to secure a release of the consignees' mail. In sup- port of the request, it was declared that the bulbs are perishable and that more than 3,000 importers would be discom- moded by the delay,
