Attenborough Village Cricket Club, Nottinghamshire, August 26th. Following the opening of the Attenborough club's improved pavilion by Paul Johnson, former star player of Nottinghamshire County Cricket Club, a celebration match was held between a team of past team members and the current team.
Attenborough village cricket club was founded in 1905, and reformed in 1955 following a hiatus caused by the world war, becoming a highly successful club in the Nottinghamshire. The ground lies next to the Attenborough Nature Reserve, and thus lies in the flood plain of the river Trent. The village green flooded regularly and a flood defence system was built to protect Attenborough Village; the red brick wall rund around the cricket ground, allowing the groundsmen to prepare and maintain a great playing surface. In 2013, the senior club is established as one of the top county clubs, at present running four Saturday league sides and two Sunday sides. The present ground on the Village Green was acquired in 1957 through the generosity of local residents and club members. Considerable work since then has made it one of the best in the county, set in beautiful surroundings adjacent to the Attenborough Nature Reserve, with excellent facilities. In 1990, it was awarded first prize in the Ground Development competition organised by the Institute of Groundsmen and the Nottinghamshire Cricket Association. The most recent project is the refurbishment of the pavilion.
