The Children's Kabuki performance at the Hikiyama Maturi Festival in Shiga Japan Asia
The Hikiyama Festival of Nagahama was first begun in latterhalf of the 16th century when the lord of Nagahama Castle gave a present of gold to the village people as a way of celebrating the birth of his son. Using rhis gold, the village people were able to make a very ornate dashi and today, there are twelve of these hikiyama dashi remaining. As part of this festival, there is the " children's Kabuki" which is performed entirely by children under twelve years old.
