Snout rounded, 3 to 3|- times in length of head, equal to interorbital width ; eye 3j to 3£ times in length of head; mouth small, subinferior; lips feebly developed ; two barbels on each Fig. Barbus deserti. Type, x 1|. side, anterior about £ diameter of eye, posterior f to f. Dorsal III 8, equally distant from centre of eye and from root of caudal, border slightly concave; last simple ray not enlarged, flexible, as long as head. Anal III 5, not reaching caudal. Pectoral f to f length of head, reaching or nearly reaching ventral; base of latter below anterior rays of dorsal. Caudal peduncle about 1| times as long as deep. Scales radiately striated, 23-25 |t, 2 between lateral line and ventral, 10-12.
