A helmet for the Mexican palace guard,under Emperor Maxmilian I of Mexico 1864 - 67 Nickel-silver skull,brass mountings with remnants of gilding,gold and silver-plated rivet heads. The underside of the front peak is lacquered green and the rear peak covered with green velvet. The helmet spike in the form of a Mexican eagle clutching a serpent in its talons and beak,with partially polished gilding in outstanding condition.
