Perrin's Phantom eye. Also known as a practice eye, this was used for ophthalmic teaching. The shells featuring various eye conditions which would be mounted on the back of a glass globe and lenses (eyepieces) demonstrating myopia, hypermetropia and astigmatism could be placed on the front of the globe. These could then be viewed with an ophthalmoscope. The Phantom Eye is French and dates from 1866.
