Kuwait - Kuwaiti Tower dramatic design detail close-up.

Detail telelphoto image of one of the spheres of the Kuwait Towers These are Kuwait's most distinctive landmark emblem and are featured on their bank-notes and many souvenirs. The three towers present a striking sight whether during the day or at night. The tallest tower is 187 metres high and and boasts two excellent restaurants in the lower sphere which also holds a million gallons of water whilst the upper one has a revolving observation deck and cafeteria with full panoramic views of the City and Gulf. The tower with the single sphere is 140 meters tall and contains a further million gallon of water for distribution to consumers in Kuwait City. The tall thin tower illuminates the towers at night with some 96 spotlights. Potable water in Kuwaiti is produced by desalination of sea water mixed with about 10% brackish water to replace minerals and enhance the taste. Desalination plants are sited next to power generating plants. After the desalination and other processes fresh water is pumped from the distallation plants to reservoirs and from these to the various water towers for distribution to consumers. Kuwait does have its own sweet water in certain areas and this is bottled for drinking. Output is strictly controlled to preserve this precious resource.
