Purposing to be in if there wereneed of more than the few first accepted, Captain Burpeeoffered his well-drilled company on May I, 1861, for servicewhen required, and in reply, received word from Adjutant-General Williams that no new muskets could be issued, andthe department might be compelled to call in what musketsthe company had, to temporarily arm the regiments nowaccepted.
