Ivory-billed woodpecker (Campephilus principalis), artwork. This large woodpecker, which can reach 50 centimetres in length, is native to the southeastern USA. It was believed to have gone extinct in the mid-1950s. Live birds were definitively identified in Arkansas in 2004 and 2005, however, meaning that a population has survived.
