Clarence Curtis Culver (1872-1946), US military radio engineer and pilot, testing a radio in an airplane. Culver was in charge of the development of aeroplane radio technology during this period, with the Division of Aeronautics (established June 1917) being part of the US Navy's Bureau of Steam Engineering. Culver's radio work, started in 1910, was recognised with the Medal of Merit (1916) and the Distinguished Service Medal (1919). He later became Commanding Officer of Kelly Field, Texas. Photographed in 1918.
