A 1920 photo of the Blue Funnel Line steamship LYCAON. Alfred Holt and Company, trading as Blue Funnel Line, was a UK shipping company that was founded in 1866 and operated merchant ships for 122 years. The lycaon was a cargo ship launched in March 1913, having been built by R & W Hawthorn, Leslie & Co Ltd at the Hebburn shipyard on the river Tyne in the north East of England. She played a significant role in both world wars carrying essential cargoes. In 1951 she transferred to the Glen Line, and was renamed Gleniffer. In July 1952 she was broken up at Faslane by Metal Industries.
